Congress Leader Booked Over Ladakh Violence; BJP Alleges He Was Part Of Protest Mob

The political temperature in Ladakh has soared after police registered a case against a senior Congress leader in connection with the recent Ladakh Violence during statehood protests. The incident, which left four people dead and several injured, has triggered a sharp war of words between the Congress and the BJP, with the ruling party alleging that the opposition leader was directly involved in the unrest.

The Case Against The Congress Leader

According to reports, the local police filed an FIR under charges of rioting, unlawful assembly, and damage to public property. Investigators claim the leader was present at the protest site when clashes broke out between demonstrators and security forces.

While the Congress has dismissed the allegations as “politically motivated”, authorities insist they have evidence, including eyewitness accounts, linking the leader to the violence.

BJP’s Strong Reaction

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wasted no time in seizing the moment, accusing the Congress of “fomenting unrest” in Ladakh. Senior BJP leaders alleged that the opposition was attempting to destabilize the region by backing disruptive protests instead of engaging in dialogue.

A BJP spokesperson stated, “The violence was not spontaneous. Political leaders were part of the mob, and their role must be investigated thoroughly.”

Congress Hits Back

In response, the Congress has slammed the BJP’s claims, calling them an attempt to “silence dissent” over Ladakh’s long-standing demand for statehood and constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule. The party maintains that their leader was attending the protest in a peaceful capacity and accused the government of trying to shift focus away from people’s genuine concerns.

Wider Implications

The controversy comes at a time when Ladakh’s demand for full statehood and greater autonomy has gained momentum. The recent violence has only deepened the fault lines, with locals accusing the Centre of ignoring their voices.

Political analysts believe that the FIR against a prominent Congress leader could escalate tensions further and sharpen the narrative ahead of upcoming elections.

What’s Next?

With investigations underway, all eyes are on how the case unfolds. If proven, the charges could deal a major blow to Congress’s image in Ladakh. However, if the claims are found to be politically motivated, it may strengthen the opposition’s stance and deepen anti-BJP sentiment in the region.

The clash over Ladakh’s statehood demand has now spilled into a full-blown political battle. The coming days will determine whether the case against the Congress leader is a matter of law and order — or yet another flashpoint in India’s charged political landscape.
