“Who Said Love Stories Are Passé?” — Pathaan Director Siddharth Anand Wants ‘Saiyaara 2’ And He’s Not Taking No For An Answer
Bollywood’s action maestro Siddharth Anand, who gave us the adrenaline-packed thrillers Pathaan and War, has now stirred a different kind of buzz — one soaked in nostalgia, heartbreak, and timeless romance. The filmmaker recently expressed a strong desire to direct a sequel to the cult-favorite romantic saga Saiyaara, boldly stating:
“Who said love stories are passé? Bring on Saiyaara 2.”
And just like that, Bollywood’s romance radar is lighting up again.
For those who need a refresher, Saiyaara, released in 2025, was a surprise box-office juggernaut. Starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in their breakout roles, the film told the story of two souls destined to collide in a world that tries to keep them apart. With its poetic storytelling, soul-stirring music, and modern take on eternal love, the movie became an anthem for Gen Z romantics.
The title track “Saiyaara,” a reimagined version of the 2012 Ek Tha Tiger ballad, topped global charts and even made history by entering Spotify’s Global Top 50, a first for a Bollywood number.
In a recent film conclave in Mumbai, Siddharth Anand dropped the bombshell that caught every rom-com lover off guard. While speaking about the evolution of Bollywood genres, the director said:
“We’ve saturated action, we’ve toyed with thrillers, but love stories… real, aching, soulful love stories — that’s where we still have magic left. Saiyaara proved that. And if the producers are listening, I want Saiyaara 2. I’m ready.”
He also hinted that he’s been pitching a sequel idea privately, and believes that there’s enough emotional depth in the original story to take the characters further.
While Anand didn’t spill many details, insiders suggest he’s toying with the idea of:
He reportedly wants to retain the original leads Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, while possibly introducing a seasoned actor in a mentor/antagonist role, akin to Shah Rukh Khan’s Ajay Sharma in Baazigar or Amitabh Bachchan in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.
The news has fans buzzing with excitement:
Many social media users have even started fan campaigns, posting concept trailers, edits, and dream casting for the sequel.
The original Saiyaara soundtrack, composed by Pritam, played a major role in the film’s success. Siddharth Anand is said to be in talks to reunite with Pritam and lyricist Irshad Kamil to ensure the sequel lives up to the original’s sonic legacy.
Expect more tear-jerking ballads, haunting love anthems, and possibly an international collaboration for a crossover song — a first for a Bollywood romantic sequel.
While Anand hasn’t confirmed any studio backing yet, sources say that major banners like YRF, Dharma, and Netflix India are already in informal talks to grab the rights. Given the box-office performance and streaming dominance of the original, Saiyaara 2 might get a hybrid release — both theatrical and OTT.
In an industry obsessed with espionage and explosions, Siddharth Anand’s desire to return to the heart — literally — with Saiyaara 2 feels like a refreshing pivot. As he rightly said,
“The world may change, but heartbreak and hope will always be relevant. We need more stories that feel, not just thrill.”
If Anand gets his way, romance lovers can finally rejoice. The wait for Saiyaara 2 has unofficially begun — and this time, it might just be bigger, bolder, and even more beautiful.
